Destroy the Icon

Destroythe_icon_Poster_Project.jpg

This original piece/poster was created by taking an iconic photograph and completely change it/modify it to the point where the original photograph is no longer recognizable. The original concept for the project originated from the story behind the original photograph by Richard Avedon, he was seeking to monumentalized ordinary people, more specifically the people on the westside of the United States. Since the original photograph was meant to monumentalize the subject, I decided to sort of take that concept and incorporate some of my own style.

The veneration of Saints is a big thing in Mexico due to Catholic Religion and since I grew up on that sort of environment and it is part of our culture I decided to incorporate those ideals into to the final design of the poster. Saints are often described as the ones who serve as “champions” of God or the ones who ultimately lead us to Christ/God which I thought was fitting since the original photograph was meant to display the important rule of ordinary people.
